In a pneumatic tyre having a flexible carcase of radially disposed parallel cords, and a flexible tension-resistant under-tread cincture, the cincture is composed of one or more pairs of separate parallel-cord strips 5a-5b, 6a-6b, 7a-7b disposed with the two strips of each pair offset axially to opposite sides of the mid-plane of the tyre so that they overlap only in the central portion of the cincture. As shown, the two strips of each pair are cross-laid with the same cord angleα, # of between 5 degrees and 30 degrees to the circumferential and the width of the overlap AA<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, is not greater than two-thirds the overall width BB<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, of the pair. The strips of superposed pairs may be of the same width, cord angle, and degree of overlap as in Fig. 2, or the width of the strips and/or the overlap may vary from pair to pair as shown in Fig. 4. The cincture may be disposed in a tread ring unit of a replaceable tread tyre. |
