PURPOSE:To decrease the generation of magnetic fluxes diffused in the transverse direction of a track width by coating both side faces of a magnetic core defining the track width in the gap forming part of the core with a conductive material. CONSTITUTION:Slopes 10a of the magnetic core on both sides formed with a gap 16 are coated with conductive material layers 17. For example, copper is used as the material of the conductive material layers 17. The conductive material layers 17 are formed on the slopes 10a by subjecting the magnetic head to vapor deposition over the entire surface from the floating face side thereof, then removing the vapor deposited layer on the surface to face a recording medium by polishing, etc. Namely, the magnetic fluxes are hardly generated from the parts coated with such conductive material layers 17 and the magnetic fluxes 19 are generated only from the surface of the gap 10a to face the recording medium 18. The spread of the magnetic fluxes 19 generated from the magnetic head to the lateral direction of the track width W is, therefore, extremely slight even if there is a clearance between the gap and the magnetic head. The effective track width on the recording medium 18 is thereby nearly equalled to the track width W of the magnetic head. |
