PURPOSE:To simplify a structure and to miniaturize an optical recording and reproducing device, by generating a bias magnetic field by the third layer of an information carrier, and initializing a second layer by an initializing magnet incorporated in an information carrier housing body. CONSTITUTION:The information carrier 1 is constituted of a substrate 2 and three magnetic layers 3, 4, and 10 basically. The housing body 11 houses the carrier 1, and the initializing magnet 8 is mounted on the housing body 11 integrally. Also, the characteristics of first-third layers 3, 4, and 10 are shown as Tc1<Tc2<Tc3 assuming the Curie temperatures of them as Tc1, Tc2, and Tc3. Thus, by providing the third layer 10 magnetized uniformly in a lower direction on the information carrier 1 in advance, it is possible not only to always stabilize the effect of the bias magnetic field H on the second layer 4 but to make an external bias magnet unnecessary. In such a way, the miniaturization of the device can be realized.
