PURPOSE:To prevent a medium part from moving in a slipping condition relative to a thermal head part, by exciting a progressive wave in a vibrator, thereby rotating the medium part and a platen. CONSTITUTION:An array of heat generating elements 2 provided on the outer surface of a virator 6, which comprises a vibrator 8 of a piezoelectric converting material provided, on the outer surface thereof with an elastic body 7, and an array of conductors 3 for energizing the elements 2 are in face-to-face contact with a medium part 4, which is a movable body, and a platen 5. When a progressive wave is excited in the vibrator 6, a surface part of the vibrator 6 is moved along an elliptic orbit. Since the elliptic orbit is rotated coutnerclockwise, the medium part 4 and the platen 5 are moved in the direction of an arrow by a propulsion in the direction opposite to the propagating direction of a composite wave. Therefore, no slipping occurs between a thermal head part and an ink film, and a high pressure can be exerted between them.
