PURPOSE:To attain calling without using cash or a telephone card by providing a means applying control so that whether or not a calling is enabled is inquired to a center equipment so as to permit the calling in response to a fact that the result of recognition representing the enabled calling is sent from the center equipment. CONSTITUTION:When a CPU 8 discriminates in a public telephone set 1 that a credit card is inserted, a host computer 30 is called via an exchange 20 to send a personal identification number together with a card data. The host computer 30 discriminates whether or not the use of the credit card is allowed based on the card data and the personal identification number data and sends the result of identification to the public telephone set 1. When the result of identification permits the calling, the CPU 8 displays a destination telephone number input request message on a display device 3. When the calling is not permitted, the message representing it is displayed, the card is returned to complete the operation.
