PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of paper-break caused by water drips and faulty products caused by the splash of water drips, by disposing water drip sucking members with sucking ports in nearly contact with the surface of a cooling roll at the paper unwound parts thereof. CONSTITUTION:In a cooling roll 5 made of a metal such as cast iron, a cooling water is supplied so as to be circulated inside near the surface. The supply of the cooling water causes dewing to generate water drips on the surface of the cooling roll. By driving the cooling roll 5, a blower 18 is actuated, and a sucking force acts to sucking ports 11c of hoods 11. The water drips applied on the surface of the rotating cooling roll 5 are sucked from the sucking ports 11c to reach the blower 18 through the hoods 11 and hoses 17, thus being discharged after being subjected to steam-water separation. Therefore, the water drips on the cooling roll 5 at parts which a paper 6 does not pass through are eliminated, thereby preventing paper break resulting from the wetting of the edges of the paper, the stoppage of a mechanism induced by paper-break, and faulty products caused by water drip splash.
