PURPOSE:To well perform gas exchange, by employing constitution such that blood is uniformly brought into contact with the outside part of porous hollow yarn. CONSTITUTION:Blood A enters an oxygenator from a blood introducing port 1 and subsequently flows downwardly through the outside part of the porous hollow yarn 4 arranged between an inner cylinder 2 and an outer cylinder 3. At this time blood A is brought into contact with the oxygen gas, which is sent in the hollow part of the porous hollow yarn 4 from an oxygen gas introducing port 6, through the pores formed to the porous hollow yarn 4 to perform gas exchange. In this case, the blood A is once stored in the blood gathering part 9 provided to the outer peripheral part of the outer cylinder 3 through a passing port 8 and subsequently discharged to the outside from a blood lead-out port 10 and, therefore, the blood A is uniformly brought into contact with the outside part of the porous hollow yarn 4.
