PURPOSE:To recognize the region where the regions assigned by plural region assignment colors overlap as either of the regions when said regions overlap by deciding whether the region in the included side is taken out or not when the region assigned by the other region assignment color is included in the region assigned by the one region assignment color. CONSTITUTION:The common part of the regions 4, 5 having the inclusion relation assigned by arbitrary two region assignment colors is detected only as the region of the including region or only as the region of the included region in the case of sequentially reading the originals subjected to the region assignment by the plural region assignment colors different from original colors 6 and detecting, in real time, the assigned regions 4, 5. The part of the region detected first by scanning in a main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction is given priority and the part of the region to be detected afterward is masked in processing circuits Q1, Q2 for giving priority to the including side. The common part of the regions assigned by the two region assignment parts is thereby detected as the region of either thereof when said regions are in the inclusion relation.
