PURPOSE:To sufficiently reproduce various lines in the width of one pixel, by providing a recording signal pulse width setting means which makes a recording signal of on objective pixel larger in pulse width than a standard according to the output of an independent black pixel discriminating means and makes a black pixel before or after the objective pixel smaller in pulse width than the standard according to the output of an independent white pixel discriminating means. CONSTITUTION:In the construction of a recording signal control part in a control circuit in a laser printer, input image information is successively inputted to a shift register 251 in synchronism with a pixel clock. A relation between one pixel (objective pixel) in the image information and a plularity of pixels adjacent thereto is checked. A black pixel disposed among a white pixel group is discriminated by an independent black pixel discriminating circuit 252 and, on the other hand, a white pixel disposed among a black pixel group is discriminated by an independent white pixel discriminating circuit 253. If a black pixel disposed among a white pixel group is discriminated, the pulse width of a recording signal is set large by a recording signal pulse width setting circuit 254; while if a white pixel disposed among a black pixel group is discriminated, the pulse width of the recording signal is set small.
