PURPOSE:To reduce running cost and prolong the useful life of a device, by constructing a recording head by providing a protective layer consisting of an electrical resistor on a plurality of electrodes provided on a substrate, applying selective electrical energy to a fluid ink, and transferring the ink thus changed in transfer characteristics. CONSTITUTION:An ink 2 provided on the surface of an ink-transferring roll 1 is supplied with electrical energy patternwise by a recording head 5 controlled by a controlling means, whereby a viscous ink image 2a is formed, and is transferred onto an intermediate transfer roll 6. The ink image 2a thus transferred is transferred onto a recording medium 8 fed between a transfer roll 7 and the roll 6. A recording head 5 comprises a plurality of electrodes 5b of a conductive material such as copper, aluminum and gold arrayed in a striped pattern on a substrate 5a formed of a plastic, glass or the like, and energizing pulses are selectively applied to the electrodes 5b by a controlling means. A protective layer 5c of an electrical resistor is provided so as to cover the entire body of the electrodes 5b, and an insulating layer 5d of, for example, a polyimide or tetrafluoroethylene is provided on the protective layer 5c, exclusive of tip parts of the electrodes 5b. |
