PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound which is an intermediate for functional chemicals, such as medicines, agricultural chemicals or dyes, without containing defluorinated compounds which are by-products, by reducing fluorinated nitrobenzenes with hydrogen in the presence of a specific compound. CONSTITUTION:Fluorinated nitrobenzenes expressed by formula I (X is F or trifluoromethyl; Y and Z each are independently H, lower alkyl which may be substituted by F, F, Cl or Br) as a raw material are catalytically reduced in the presence of an organic cyano compound using Raney nickel as a catalyst under hydrogen pressure, preferably in a solvent, such as methanol or dioxane, at a temperature within the range of 40-130 deg.C under 2-10kg/cm<2> pressure to afford a compound expressed by formula II. Furthermore, dicyandiamide, butyronitrile, etc., are cited as the organic cyano compound and the amount thereof used is normally 0.1-30% (weight ratio) based on the fluorinated nitrobenzenes. |
