PURPOSE:To correct a character with a favorable finish, by bringing a transfer material into contact with a character to be corrected, with the heating of the material by a heat generating element. CONSTITUTION:An electric current is supplied to one of heat generating elements 12a-12c which has a size corresponding to the size of a character to be corrected on a recording paper. Before or after the current supply, a main body part 11 is placed on the surface of the paper so that the heating element is located directly on the character to be corrected. The heating element 12 being supplied with the current is depressed downward by a fingertip through a heat-insulating sheet 16, whereby the element 12 is depressed downward to make contact with a transfer material 13 therebeneath, and deflects the material 13 downward. As a result, the transfer material 13 is brought into close contact with the character to be corrected, an ink layer constituting the character is melted or sublimed, and is adhered to the surface of the transfer material 13. When it seems that the adhesion of the ink layer is completed, the transfer material 13 is separated from the surface of the paper, whereby the correction of the character through transfer is finished.
