PURPOSE:To smoothly actuate diaphragm vanes and to reduce the number of parts and man-hours for assembly by providing diaphragm vane supporting members of a stepped shaft type which support diaphragm vanes at prescribed intervals to prevent the contact of the vanes with each other. CONSTITUTION:The respective diaphragm vanes 3, 4 are slidingly supported on the respective supporting surfaces of the diaphragm vane supporting members 2 of the stepped shaft type and are thereby formed into the construction to prevent the sliding contact of the respective vanes 3, 4 with each other. The surfaces of the vanes 3, 4 coming into sliding contact with each other are extremely small and have extremely small coeffts. of friction. The smooth action is, therefore, possible. The need for working the surface of a plate 1 as a guide surface for sliding of the diaphragm vanes is eliminated and a cover as a vane sliding surface at the time of the backward motion of the vanes 3, 4 is not needed and, therefore, the costs of working and assembly are reduced.
