<p>PURPOSE:To improve operating characteristics, facilitate control and enhance combustion efficiency by a method wherein the coating amount of alumina applied on the inner peripheral surface of the gas flow passage of a catalytic block is reduced on the upstream side of the gas flow passage and increased on the downstream side thereof and the carrying amount of catalyst components in the catalytic block is increased locally on the upstream side. CONSTITUTION:Alumina is applied on the inner peripheral surface of a gas flow passage 11 provided in a catalytic block 9 made of cordierite or the like, and its coating amount (P) is reduced on the upstream side of the gas flow passage 11 and increased on the downstream side thereof. Further, the carrying amount (Q) of catalyst components is set so as to be increased at the foremost part of the upstream side, reduced to minimum at the middle part thereof and somewhat increased on the downstream side than at the middle part. A mixed gas 14 within the catalytic block 9 is easily ignited because catalytic activity is promoted on the upstream side, and the combustion of the mixed gas is stabilized. Further, by increasing the coating amount of alumina on the circumference (b) of the catalytic block, the blowout of the mixed gas is prevented and the range of combustion is expanded.</p> |
