PURPOSE:To facilitate the visual confirmation of a character, by displaying the character against a background having definite brightness regardless of the intensity of the echo signal of a tomographic image. CONSTITUTION:The echo of the ultrasonic pulse received by a transducer 2 is stored in an image memory 8 through a transmitting and receiving circuit 4 and an A/D converter 6. The data read from the image memory 8 is supplied to a monitor 24 through a brightness converting memory 18 and a D/A converter 22. The character from a character memory 10 is also displayed so as to be superposed on the image of the monitor 24. The brightness of the background part of said character is made constant on the basis of the output from a masking character memory 12. |
