PURPOSE:To simplify a circuit constitution by reading white reference patterns provided beyond an original picture scanning area before the original picture is scanned, calculating the mean value and executing shading correction at every color with the mean value as reference data. CONSTITUTION:The white reference patterns which have been provided beyond the original picture scanning area and the white reference patterns are read before the original picture is scanned and the prescribed mean value of plural chrominance signals in the white reference patterns are calculated. The mean value is stored in a storage means 201 as reference data SH-DATA0-5 of shading correction in color resolution data. By using reference data SH-DATA0-5 which have been stored in the storage means 201, the operation of shading correction is executed with respect to data of respective colors. Thus, shading correction is executed with the simple constitution.
