PURPOSE:To determine the optimum wind-up tension pattern and materialize the suitable winding of a web by introducing a radial-direction equivalent Young's modulus in which the thickness of an air film between wound-up webs is taken into account at the time of obtaining the radial-direction stress of a web. CONSTITUTION:First, a wind-up tension pattern in which the wind-up velocity V of a web and the wind-up radius of the web are used as a parameter is assumed, and the wind-up velocity V and wind-up tension T at each wind-up radius are substituted for a specific formula to calculate an air film thickness (h). Then, the Young's modulus E2 of an air film which exists between the wound-up webs being formed when the web is wound up to the last is obtained by the wind-up tension pattern. The air film thickness (h), the Young's modulus E2 of air film, a radial-direction equivalent Young's modulus Er, and a radial-direction stress gr are calculated for each wind-up radius. By judging whether the whole of the calculated radial-direction stresses or for each wind-up radius are within the previously set proper range in each corresponding wind-up radius or not and, when the radial direction stress or is within the proper range over the whole wind-up radii, the wind-up tension pattern assumed at that time is determined as the optimum wind-up tension pattern.
