PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain an auto-reverse mechanism without requiring a separate driving source like an electromagnet by using a driving belt for tape running as the driving source of the auto-reverse mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A cassette tape is run by rotation of a reel, and the reel is rotated by the action of the driving belt, and the action of the driving belt is used for switching of the tape running direction. That is, an advanced lever 29 can be turned and translated in accordance with motion of the driving belt. The lever 29 is translated at the time of switching the running direction of the tape, and a switching gear 36 is engaged with an intermediate gear 22 only during half rotation by this action. Half rotation of the switching gear 36 is used to switch not only the driving side and the driven side of reels but also the operation state of a pinch roll. Thus, a separate driving means for switching of the running direction is unnecessary and the cost is reduced by disuse of this means.
