PURPOSE:To obtain a friction disc such as, e.g., brake lining, of excellent mechanical strengths simply without causing pollution by permitting level cupfull weighing, by pelletizing a specified friction material mixture for forming friction discs without heat treatment, premolding this mixture and thermoforming and curing it. CONSTITUTION:A friction material mixture for forming friction discs, based on a reinforcing fiber material, an inorganic or organic filler, a frictional abrasion controller and 15-30vol.% (based on the total mixture) thermosetting resin binder (e.g., resol phenolic resin powder) in kneaded and extruded while the temperature is controlled so that the curing of the resin binder in the mixture may not proceed, and ground and pelletized without heat treatment. The pelletized material is subjected to level cupfull weighting, premolded and thermoformed and cured with a hot press or the like. |
