PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of a device for inverting an object on a conveyor up-and-down, by image-picking up the lower face of the object on the conveyor by a TV camera from a gap of the conveyor, and generating a still image from its image. CONSTITUTION:A TV camera 4d image-picks up the lower face of the object on the conveyor 2 through the gap 32 of the conveyor 2. On the other hand, a timing detecting sensor 33 detects a time point when the tip of the object on the conveyor 2 has arrived at the gap 32, and a time point When the rear end of the object has passed through the gap 32 completely. Subsequently, a slit image generating means 36 generates plural pieces of still slit images from picked up image by a camera 4d, based on information from the sensor 33. Plural pieces of slit still images which have been generated in such a way are synthesized by an image synthesizing means 38. In such a way, a device for inverting the object on the conveyor up-and-down is eliminated.
