PURPOSE:To obtain the capacitor having the low degree of variation in capacitance caused by the heat of solder when a mounting operation is conducted, also having low insulation resistance, and to make it possible to obtain an ultrathin capacitor by a method wherein a biaxially oriented copolymerized polyphenylene sulfide film, having a specific melting point and a Young's modulus, is used as a dielectric. CONSTITUTION:A biaxially oriented copolymerized polyphenylene sulfide film, having the melting point of 250 deg.C or above and the vertical Young's modulus of 400kg/mm<3> or above is used as a dielectric. A copolymerized polyphenylene sulfide composition is fused by heating it up to the melting point or above in a melt-extrusion device, it is continuously extruded from a slit-shaped die, said composition is quickly cooled and solidified on a cast drum to the transition temperature or below of the glass with which the composition is mainly composed. The unstretched film obtained by the above-mentioned procedure is stretched and thermally set. This copolymerized polyphenylene sulfide oriented and thermally set film is exceedingly suitable especially for the film to be used for a thin capacitor.
