PURPOSE:To obtain a building material which has good weatherability and toughness, is light in weight, and has excellent refractoriness and heat insulating characteristic by using a mixture composed of a plastic foam and cement and calcium chloride as chief materials, and molding and solidifying the kneaded mixture composed of said materials and specific assistants. CONSTITUTION:This building material is formed by using the mixture composed of the plastic foam and cement and the calcium chloride as the chief materials, kneading these materials with an aq. soln. contg. at least one among an iron salt, potassium salt and ammonium salt as the assistants to prepare the kneaded mixture and molding and solidifying such mixture to a block, panel or other desired shapes. The ratios of the respective component compsns. are determined according to the applications of the desired product. The product can be reinforced by mixing org. and inorg. fibers such as glass fibers, aramid fibers, and carbon fibers or metal whiskers, etc., particularly when strength is needed.
