PURPOSE:To obtain a pressure-sensitive adhesive of excellent hot melt coating property, comprising a graft copolymer of a specified macromonomer having a specified content of the alkali metal residues of an anionic polymerization initiator with an alkyl (meth)acrylate. CONSTITUTION:A pressure-sensitive adhesive comprising a graft copolymer (A) of a macromonomer comprising a (meth)acrylate group-terminal poly(vinyl aromatic monomer) obtained by anionic polymerization with an alkyl (meth) acrylate (B) and prepared so that the residues of an alkali metal salt (e.g., sec-butyllithium) of the anionic polymerization initiator contained in component A may be 50mug/g or below. The above adhesive which, like an acrylic pressure- sensitive adhesive of this kind, is excellent in adhesiveness, cohesion, transparency and aging resistance, is controlled in an increase of the hot melt viscosity of the graft copolymer with time and excels in hot melt coating property.
