PURPOSE:To obtain a very bright original surface illumination and to attain the high speed reading by providing a light conducting film to conduct an irradiating light on an original and a photodetector and using a thin glass to function as a protecting plate-cum-light conducting plate between the light conducting film and the original. CONSTITUTION:A light conducting film 2 is formed in a belt shape on a transparent plate 1 and on it, individual side and common side electrodes 3 and 4 are formed. An inter-layer insulating film 5 is formed so as to cover this and an upper part wiring 6 and an shading film-cum-reflecting film 11 are formed. Next, after a light conducting film 9 including a phosphor is applied to a thin glass 10, it is adhered to a sensor substrate side. Next, a thin glass 12 is adhered with a sensor substrate side and a light source 8 and a shading plate 14 are fitted. The irradiating light is made incident on a film 8 through the plate 1, the phosphor emits a light in the film 9, emits from an edge part, an original 7 is not radiated, in addition to it, even the light to leak out to the thin glass 10 is emitted from the edge part, a very bright surface illumination is obtained and a high speed reading can be executed.
