This novel granite concrete stone shows the character of a natural granite stone and, when roughened, has a silky sheen which in some cases exceeds even the gloss of a natural granite stone. After the success of the basalt concrete stone (DE-OS-3,531,772) of related type, it was obvious to attempt the preparation of a granite concrete stone having corresponding properties. After many unsuccessful attempts, this was unexpectedly achieved by the addition of fractions of diabase grains, and in particular with a relatively very high proportion of diabase powder. The granite concrete stone, obtained in this way and consisting exclusively of granite grain fractions, diabase grain fractions, cement and water, has, in addition to the visual character of a natural granite stone, a high static strength and a likewise high resistance to the effects of temperature and weathering. The illustration, an enlarged section of a granite concrete stone, diagrammatically shows the distribution of the larger and medium-size granite and diabase grain fractions (1, 2, 4, 5) and of the small particles (3, 6) of granite powder and diabase powder on the surface of a granite concrete stone. <IMAGE>
