A winch suitable for the laying of cables, in particular for the laying optical fibre cables, inside tubes, comprises at least a couple of pulleys (10, 11) superimposed to each other. The pulleys are grooved to receive said cables and are mounted on respective horizontal shafts, at least one of which transmits the motion. The shafts extend from a vertical support upright (12) which supports a drive motor which drives the pulleys via a chain and sprocket arrangement (16 - 18). The winch is adjustably located in a well 23 so as to be able to pull the cable (27). <IMAGE>
