PURPOSE:To inform the deteriorated reproducibility in a printer to the user by comparing an image data with 1st and 2nd threshold levels and discriminating that a thin part exists in an original when a data between the threshold levels reaches a prescribed count. CONSTITUTION:A color discriminating means 6 consists of a binarizing circuit having the two threshold levels; 1st and 2nd values, and the same digital data outputted from an A/D converter 5 is compared respectively with the 1st and 2nd threshold levels to binarize said data. When both data are at white level, it is discriminated as a white level in the region A and when both are at a black level, the region C is discriminated to be a black level, and when the result of comparison at the 1st threshold level is at a black level and the result of comparison at the 2nd threshold level is at a white level, it is discriminated that the density is low in the region B. The data entering the region B is counted by a density detecting means 7 composed of a microcomputer and when the data counted quantity is increased, a warning is issued to the user.
