In order to regulate the height of the electrode (10), the electrode regulating cylinders (18) are supported on a transverse load-bearing member (20) which is suspended on the ceiling load-bearing and pivoting mechanism (5). In order to rotate the ceiling load-bearing and pivoting mechanism (5) the guide columns (11) which support the electrodes (10) are initially forced up by the cylinders (18), are held in their upper position by a lock (15/16), and the transverse load-bearing member (20) is subsequently raised to above the furnace platform (2) by means of the cylinders (18) which are connected to the guide columns (11). The present electrode regulating device is suitable for furnace platforms (2) having a limited passage (14) for the cylinders (18) and the transverse load-bearing member (20). <IMAGE>
