Method for coating thin-walled or small-format glass containers in a coating tunnel, which is passed through by a conveyor belt, with a pyrolytically and hydrolytically decomposable metal compound in a mixture with air, the glass containers being exposed to a turbulent flow of a mixture consisting of vaporised metal compound/air in the tunnel interior. By virtue of the fact that the glass containers 12 are guided through a horizontally circulating air-flow roller which is designed in the tunnel interior 19 and enriched with vaporised metal compound, and that the flow course 21 in the first half of the tunnel interior 19 is designed to be opposite to the flow course 22 in the second half, a uniform flowing around of the hot container surfaces to be coated is achieved. The invention also relates to a device for implementing this method with a conveyor belt running through a coating tunnel and side sheets delimiting the tunnel interior, air guide chambers 4 being arranged on the side sheets 3 on both sides, which chambers are divided by air guide sheets 8 into pressure chambers 6 and suction chambers 7, and the side sheets 3 having horizontally arranged openings 9, 10 in the region of the pressure chambers 6 and suction chambers 7, and in each case the suction chamber 7 on one side lying opposite the pressure chamber 6 on the other side in the same plane and the position of pressure chambers 6 and suction chambers 7 in one half of the ...
