PURPOSE:To accurately distinguish a train number by storing while displaying the train number when the indication of the train number on an indicator is incomplete and inputting correct letters by an operator and, after that, collating the number with the train number of the entering or passing train. CONSTITUTION:As the passage of a train 2 is detected by a train detector 100, a camera 200 reads the indication of a train number indicator 3, which is inputted into a picture image processing device 300, in which an indicated letter recognition circuit 320 checks its propriety through a letter dictionary and outputs it for indication when it is normal. Here, if the indicated train number is incomplete because of a shifted letter screen, etc., the train number is displayed on a CRT 400 by means of a stored letter picture image judging circuit 330 as well as stored, and an operator reads correct letters out of the display of the incomplete letters and the correct letters are inputted by an input means 403 and registered in a train number input circuit 340. And, correct recognition can be automatically carried out for the same train which repeatedly comes in after that. Thereby, the operation and management of trains can be smoothly carried out.
