The planting element exhibits a lateral surface which can be cultivated with greenery, with the result that, using said elements, a relatively large wall surface can be cultivated with greenery. The side surfaces, which are bevelled in pairs in one embodiment, serve as a frame for fastening a root mat and for water retention. The planting element may be a box element with a fixed rear wall or a retaining frame which is fastened on the wall via sheeting. House fa�ades and balcony walls can be cultivated with greenery.
