Method of reworking rotating components full of wear marks

In a method of reworking rotating components full of wear marks, in particular crankshafts and engine bearing journals exhibiting ridge wear, a machining shell is inserted instead of the bearing shell. The machining-shell inner surface facing the component to be reworked has areas covered with an abrasive material. By means of an external drive unit, the component is set in rotation until the desired removal of the wear marks is achieved; then the machining shell is replaced again by a bearing shell. The abrasive residues accumulating during the machining are caught and removed from the bearing area.
