Hand belt sander driven by a motor via a gearing. In known hand belt sanders, the diameters of the drive roller and of the deflection roller are the same size, and the gearing between drive motor and drive roller is in two stages. To be able to manufacture such hand belt sanders less expensively and, at the same time, to obtain a higher efficiency, the gearing between drive motor (2) and drive roller (6) is in one stage and the drive roller (6) has a smaller diameter than the deflection roller (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
