In order to raise a sloping curtain for halls or the like while avoiding vertical and diagonal folds, a gathering rod is connected by pull straps or pull ropes to winding shafts which are assigned with their winding axes horizontally in the plane of the separating curtain or inclined in the direction of the roof inclination. By means of the interconnected winding shafts which are driven via a common rotary drive, are inclined and are provided with diameters proportional to the length of the respective pull means, during the gathering operation the pull means are wound on to the respective winding shaft such that the winding zone on the winding shaft moves in accordance with the horizontal displacement of the fixed engagement point of the pull means on the gathering rod and can thus lie in a single layer winding against winding. For further improvement of the single-layer winding-up of the pull means, the winding shafts are provided with guide grooves of different pitch.
