A fitting for an automobile, in particular a headrest, comprises a shape-retaining, hollow central part made out of synthetic material strengthened by supports (2, 4) and possesses at least one connecting means, in the form of an insertion opening (3) for the introduction of a carrying support, and at least one covering surrounding the central part, and is characterized in that the central part is assembled from two shell-like individual sections (1) constructed and arranged together in such a way that together they form, except for the insertion openings, a central part with a closed, smooth surface. The two sections can be welded together by electrically heating a conductor (6, 7) inserted in channels formed in supporting zig-zag ribs (4). The fitting may also be a sun-visor arm-rest or hand-grip. <IMAGE>
