PURPOSE:To operate an optical path change means depending on the monitoring and reading by providing an optical path change means on the way of an optical path reaching an image sensor from an original platen. CONSTITUTION:A mirror 3 rocking around the shaft 2 is provided to the lower part of the original platen 1 made of a planer glass plate. When the mirror 3 is placed on the solid-line in figure, the light from the original placed on the original platen 1 forms its image on the image sensor 5. When the mirror 3 is rocked around the shaft 2 and is at a position 3a shown in broken lines, the light from the original is formed on the monitor screen 8 provided to via the monitor image forming lens 6. Thus, the mirror 3 is replaced to a housing the position 3a prior to the reading to monitor the read range via the screen 8.
