PURPOSE:To produce a beta-Ti alloy having superior strength and ductility by heat treating a beta-Ti alloy under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A beta-Ti alloy is heated to the beta-transus temp. or above in an atmosphere of hydrogen or a hydrogen compd. such as H2, H2O, H2S or NH3 to absorb >=150ppm hydrogen in the alloy as well as to carry out soln. heat treatment. The heated alloy is rapidly cooled at a higher cooling rate than air cooling rate, optionally cold worked at >=5% rate and heated to 100-650 deg.C in vacuum of 1X10<-2>Torr. By this heating, the alloy is simultaneously dehydrogenated and aged. The alloy is further aged at a temp. between the first aging temp. and 650 deg.C as required. A beta-Ti alloy having superior strength and ductility is produced.
