Plate heat exchanger for preheating broken glass or similar bulk materials

In known plate heat exchangers for preheating broken glass, repairing of the heating plates worn out by the abrasive material can be carried out only with difficulty and can lead to unacceptable interruptions in operation. Moreover, wear inspection is virtually impossible in the known plate heat exchangers for preheating broken glass. In order to eliminate these shortcomings, the plate heat exchanger 10 is assembled, in a modular method of construction, from separate heat exchanger blocks 11 which, in the case of repair being necessary, can be replaced by others simply and quickly. The hollow heating plates of the separate heat exchanger blocks 11 are constructed for a horizontal through-flow of the heating gas, and diversion ducts 23 for the heating gas, which are mounted from outside, connect the laterally outwardly open hollow heating plates of in each case two vertically adjacent heat exchanger blocks 11. By this means, a meander-shaped ducting of the heating gas through the plate heat exchanger 10 is achieved, as a result of which the heating gas energy is better utilised in comparison with the prior art. Simple wear inspection is possible by opening inspection doors mounted on the diversion ducts 23 for the heating gas and thus establishing the lateral access to the heat exchanger blocks 11.
