The invention relates to a miniature electric motor which is operated with direct current and contains a rotor (10) and an inductor (stator)(11) which are combined with a housing body (12), the rotor (10) being equipped with inertial masses (20) attached to the core (15) of the rotor and with metallic blocks (20'), and the inductor (stator) (11) being formed from two induction poles (21) which are connected to two induction coils (22, 23) with windings which are opposed to one another and are optionally fed via two corresponding diodes (24, 25) so that the magnetic polarity of the two induction poles can be inverted and the rotation of the motor in opposite directions can be made possible, the induction poles becoming demagnetized in the stopping phase of the motor so that a braking effect is not exerted on the rotor. The miniature motor is particularly suitable for driving miniature models of railway tractive units and the like and the high degree of inertia of its motor permits the respective vehicle to be started up and stopped gradually and realistically. <IMAGE>
