Optical communication system with wavelength-division and polarization-division multiplex

A unidirectional and a bidirectional optical communication system is described in which a number of light signals are simultaneously transmitted via a transmission link consisting of an optical waveguide. The light signals have different wavelengths, signals with adjacent wavelengths exhibiting different directions of polarization.
