Operating machine for manipulating workpieces along the three- dimensional system of axes in the press area of a forming press, having a plurality of forming stations in the forming press which are arranged in juxtaposition transversely to the charging direction, having a movable machine frame, and a manipulator slide which is movable in the machine frame and consists of a base plate, which is movable in the plane along two axes of the three-dimensional system of axes, and of a lifting plate capable of up-and-down movement, manipulator tongs mounted on the manipulator slide and a drive unit for the movements of the base plate or of the lifting plate. The drive unit has a lift actuating drive for the up &tilde& and-down movement of the lifting plate, a charge actuating drive for the movement in the charging direction and back, and a transverse actuating drive for the movement transversely to the charging direction and back. A drive motor for these movements is arranged in the machine frame, this motor operating directly or via a gear on a main drive shaft to which actuating drives are mechanically connected. The lift actuating drive has a two-armed lever for actuating the lifting movement, one arm of this lever being connected to the lifting plate and the other lever arm bearing against a cam plate for controlling the lifting movement. The charge actuating drive has a two-armed lever for actuating the charging movement, one arm of this lever being connected to the base plate and the other lever arm bearing against a cam for controlling the charging movement.
