PURPOSE:To develop a metallic material dispersedly containing fine diamond powder and having properties excellent as material for grinding and polishing, by treating a sintered compact of a Co-type metal dispersedly containing graphite under specific temp. and pressure conditions. CONSTITUTION:A powder of Co or Co-base alloy is sufficiently mixed with a graphite powder in a ratio of 96:4 by weight, and the resulting mixture is heated and melted in an Ar-gas atmosphere and then formed into grains of <=60 mesh by a spraying method. This grain has a structure in which Co is used as a matrix and graphite is uniformly dispersed in the matrix, and an annular mold is filled with these grains, so that heating and pressurization are applied at <=1,000 deg.C under a pressure where a diamond phase is thermodynamically stable, by which a Co-base metallic sintered body in which fine diamond grains of <=1mum are uniformly dispersed is obtained. By this method, a fine diamond grain dispersed body in which the fine diamond grains of submicron class are dispersed in a metallic matrix of Co-base alloy, etc., and which is suitable for accurate grinding and polishing can be obtained. |
