PURPOSE:To provide the titled fluid which makes miniaturization of a drive feasible and stands high speed and high load applications, prepared by treating naphthalene or tetralin in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, followed by hydrogenation. CONSTITUTION:The fluid for traction drive contains as base stock a fluid prepared by hydrogenating a product obtained by treating naphthalene or tetralin in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst (e.g. aluminum chloride). Having a high traction coefficient at both low and high temperatures, the fluid for traction drive not only contributes towards miniaturization of a drive but also stands severe conditions of use such as high speed and high load and finds an extensive application in antomobiles and industrial machinery such as stepless transmission and hydraulic press. |
