PURPOSE:To always reproduce a picture with high quality and high definition by splitting a picture into blocks comprising plural picture elements and selecting the total sum of the density in the said block to a density of a specific picture element in the block and selecting the density of the remaining picture element in the block zero. CONSTITUTION:Data is transferred in one block of m X n picture elements, an edge detection circuit 14 decide whether or not an edge exists in the block and outputs '1' when an edge exists and '0' when not exists as a signal 200. The signal 200 is inputted to a selector 15 and the signal 100 is used as the signal 300 when the signal 200 is at '0' to transfer it to the pre-processing circuit 16. The pre-processing circuit 16 sums the block data inputted as the signal 300 to apply pseudo dot method replacing the total sum of the density data in the block as the density of one picture element or plural picture elements in the block. Thus, dots are arranged periodically and the specific stripe pattern caused in case of binarizing by the error diffusion method is reduced.
