PURPOSE:To shorten the interposing time of an operator, by executing operation input by the operator and the read of an original in parallel at the time of setting the original by the operator. CONSTITUTION:The original placed on an original platen 1 is carried by carrying rollers 2 and 3, and also, is illuminated by a light source 5 on contact glass 4, and reflected light from its image plane is reflected on a mirror 6, and is image-formed on a line sensor 8 by a lens 7. The setting of the original on the original platen 1 is detected by an original detecting sensor 9. When the original is set on the original platen 1, the operation input by the operator and the read of the original are executed in parallel.
