FLUID-OPERATED CYLINDER AND PNEUMATIC AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FOR OPERATING SAME

A pneumatic and hydraulic system for operating fluidoperated cylinders is provided. The system employs both air and oil in a tank with the oil supplied at least to the blind side of a piston in the cylinder. The pressure of the oil is controlled by the pressure of the air in the tank and a blocking valve is employed between the tank and the cylinder to control flow of the oil. The use of the oil and valve enables the position of the piston and the piston rod to be closely controlled so that the apparatus can be used for applications where more complicated apparatus was previously required. Two of the air/oil tanks can also be employed to control the supply of oil to both sides of the piston in the cylinder for accurately positioning same.
