PURPOSE:To reproduce a thin line in an excellent way by applying resolution correction in the pre-stage of multilevel processing in applying multilevel processing after color separation. CONSTITUTION:Means 15A, 15B converting color picture information into plural color signals through the separation of plural color separation images, a color separation means 35 separating a chrominance signal in plural bits further to the color signal, a resolution correction means 450 to the chrominance signals to be separated in plural bits and a means 600B for applying multilevel processing to the picture signal whose resolution is corrected, are provided. In applying multilevel processing to the picture information after color separation, the multivalue processing is executed based on the picture information whose resolution is corrected. Thus, the contour of the picture is emphasized and the deterioration in the picture is less even with multilevel processing and since the contour of the picture is made clear, the setting width of the multilevel threshold value is widened remarkably more than the multilevel processing before the resolution correction.
