PURPOSE:To prevent duplication and void of recording lines by using a high density image sensor so as to read the end position of the preceding recording at the time of the return of a recording unit and adjusting the paper feed quantity in the sub scanning direction so that the end of the recording is coincident with the end of the recording head accurately. CONSTITUTION:The high density image sensor 22 having plural read elements split in the sub scanning direction is arranged to the recording unit provided with the recording head 23 having a prescribed width of recording in the sub scanning direction onto the recording paper while being driven in the main scanning direction. Moreover, a control circuit 26 is provided, which detects the end position of the recorded part of the recording paper 15 by the signal from each read element of the high density image sensor 22 and the signal from the control circuit 26 controls the paper feed motor 17 to adjust the paper feed quantity. Thus, the accurate paper feed of the recording paper in the sub scanning direction is attained and duplication and void of the recording line is prevented.
