PURPOSE:To suppress such a phenomenon as generation and cumulation of hydrogen gas by coating fiber surfaces with highly conductive metallic cadmium. CONSTITUTION:After fibers whose surfaces are coated with hydrogen cadmium are electrically charged in a alkaline aqueous solution to transform cadmium hydroxide into metallic cadmium, fibers and cadmium oxide powder, cadmium hydroxide powder or metallic cadmium powder serving as a main active substance and a binder are mixed and kneaded together into pasty state and this paste is applied on a conductive core. Therefore, since the water-repellency on the fiber surfaces disappears, not only reactivity of the active substances around fibers can be maintained at high levels but also the active substances around fibers are mutually connected by means of a coating metallic cadmium layer. Since conductive matrix can be very easily formed during the period of charge and generation of hydrogen gas is very effectively suppressed in this way, there is no chance for hydrogen gas to be cumulated inside a battery. |
