PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent serious hindrance in not only a low land area but also a high land area by controlling the operation of an engine in accordance with an estimated intake-air temperature which is set in accordance with the atmospheric pressure when an abnormality of an intake-air temperature is detected. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 100 determines that an abnormality occurs, when the level of a detection signal from an intake-air temperature sensor 19 exceeds a predetermined upper or lower limit value. In this case, an estimated intake-air temperature s set in accordance with the atmospheric pressure exhibited by a detection signal so that the lower the atmospheric pressure, the lower the temperature is. Further, thus set estimated intake-air temperature value is used as an intake-air temperature value detected by the intake-air temperature sensor 19 so as to set the width of a fuel injection pulse. With this arrangement, even though an abnormality occurs in the intake air temperature sensor 19, a sufficient amount of fuel is fed in not only a lower land area but also in a high land area, thereby it is possible to appropriately control the operation of an engine 10.
